An interface is a defined connection point of a functional unit, through which it can be connected to other functional units. “Defined” in this context means that the requirements and characteristic features of this connection point are described. The connection between interfaces of functional units is also referred to as the interface. A defined exchange of information takes place at this point in an information system. Interfaces make specific requirements of the incoming connection and demand certain characteristics.
